Examine two 18th-century portraits of Madonna and Child side by side. Undergoing vastly different conservation treatments, Our Lady of Guidance (Nuestra Señora de Guía) (about 1762) by Venezuelan artist Juan Pedro López has a yellowed varnish and visually distracting overpaint, while Virgen de Belén (Our Lady of Bethlehem) (18th century) by an unknown Peruvian artist requires significant structural work to address past campaigns to repair long tears in the canvas. Join us to explore the tools used to study these paintings and compare their distinct treatment solutions.

With Rachel Childers, assistant conservator, Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Paintings Conservation Studio.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Due to space constraints, tours are limited to 12 participants (first come, first served). Tours meet at Sharf Visitor Center. Assistive listening devices available on request.
