In 1981, Jean-Michel Basquiat joined forces with writer Glenn O’Brien and photographer Edo Bertoglio to make a movie about ragged bohemian life in Lower Manhattan. Left incomplete for years, it was finally finished and released in 2000 as Downtown 81. The film is a window into a lost world of creative ferment and life on the margins.
