Boston Turkish Film Festival

Join MFA Film in celebrating both recognized Turkish filmmakers and newcomers to the 23rd-annual Boston Turkish Film Festival. This year’s lineup features screenings of the award-winning films from the Boston Turkish Festival’s Documentary and Short Film Competition, which celebrated its 18th year in 2023.

This year’s program, taking place online and in person at the MFA, features North American premieres of the latest films by two leading auteurs of Turkish cinema. Renowned for their captivating storytelling and masterful visuals, Zeki Demirkubuz and Reha Erdem were presented BTFF’s Award for Excellence in Turkish Cinema in previous years. Additionally, up-and-coming director Melisa Önel’s film Suddenly screens on the heels of its world premiere at Tokyo International Film Festival and its European premiere in Rotterdam.

Winners of the Boston Turkish Festival’s Documentary and Short Film Competition screened preceding Neandria on April 7. The competition’s award ceremony and a panel discussion, moderated by film critic Peter Keough, follow Neandria.

Programmed by Erkut Gömülü, founder and director of the Boston Turkish Film Festival. All films are in Turkish with English subtitles unless otherwise noted. Following the screenings at the MFA, the festival continues online through April 15. See the full schedule.

Copresented by the Turkish American Cultural Society of New England.
