Throughout history, artists have turned to literature for inspiration. References to Homer’s epics abound in artworks from ancient Greece and Rome, while from the Renaissance through today, artists refer to the literary world. Visual art has held similar appeal to writers, who regularly find inspiration in paintings and sculpture. Focus on the symbiotic relationship between visual art and literature through an exploration of artworks from across the MFA’s collection and the exhibition "Bouchra Khalili: Poets and Witnesses.”
