Directed by Erkan Tahhuşoğlu (Türkiye, 2024, 81 min.). Turkish with English subtitles.
Now in its 24th year, the Boston Turkish Film Festival continues its tradition of showcasing emerging and established Turkish filmmakers. Taking place in person at MFA and online, this year’s festival features multiple North American and US premieres and appearances by several of the filmmakers.
The MFA program opens with Fate, by Nadim Güç, a heartwarming and humorous story of women’s empowerment set in Türkiye’s Black Sea region. Hakkı, by Hikmet Kerem Özcan, follows a souvenir seller in an Aegean village whose discovery of an ancient artifact leads to obsessive greed. Award-winning filmmaker Selman Nacar returns with Hesitation Wound, a legal drama exploring ethical dilemmas, while Erkan Tahhuşoğlu’s Cycle examines class divides through the struggles of a housekeeper caught in a moral dilemma.
Winners of the Boston Turkish Festival’s Documentary and Short Film Competition are also screened, with a panel discussion moderated by critic Peter Keough following Cycle.
Following the screenings at the MFA, the festival continues online through April 15. See the full schedule.
Programmed by Erkut Gömülü, founder and director of the Boston Turkish Film Festival, and copresented by the Turkish American Cultural Society of New England.
