Drawing exclusively in the galleries, concentrate on practicing the basic fundamentals of line, gesture, shading, texture, color, proportion, and composition. Combine and build upon these drawing fundamentals, and learn to practice a variety of techniques while exploring different media. Draw inspiration from artwork and explore themes of the MFA collections.

Registration for February, April, and Summer vacation week classes ends at Noon the Friday before the class starts.

About the Instructor
Beth Newman received her BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design and has studied classical atelier methods from The Grand Central Atelier’s online program and is currently taking classes at the Academy for Realist Art in Boston. Her personal work mirrors her passion for the classical atelier methods. In addition to teaching at the MFA, she teaches classes at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, previously taught both children and adult art classes at Whitehall Farm Studios in Hopkinton, and is currently the K-8 Art Teacher in East Somerville Community School where she enjoys teaching a diverse group of students in a vibrant school setting.
