Accessibility

Accessible spaces are available in our garage and parking lots located on Museum Road. The Huntington Avenue parking lot (entrance on Museum Road) has HP spaces along the Huntington Avenue side, parallel to the sidewalk. Payment for parking may be made in the garage, or by credit or debit card at the exit gates. Should you need assistance, there is a help button on the gate. Scan your membership card to receive the discounted rate.

The Huntington Entrance (465 Huntington Avenue) is the current main entrance. The entrance is accessible with a drop-off area in front, and ramps to the left and right of the stairs. It is equipped with power-assist doors.

The Linde Family Wing Entrance on Museum Road is reserved for visitors who require a level entrance.

The State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance is closed to the public at this time.

Manual wheelchairs and Rollators (walkers with wheels, padded seats, and backs) are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at both the main entrance, the Huntington Avenue Entrance, and the entrance reserved for those who require a level entrance, the Linde Family Wing Entrance. Please return wheelchairs and Rollators after your visit.

The MFA also welcomes your personal walkers, wheelchairs, and scooters.

Personal care attendants are admitted free of charge.

The MFA warmly welcomes service dogs. Please note, emotional support animals and comfort animals are not permitted.

Many Museum galleries have permanent benches or couches. Free gallery stools are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. These lightweight folding seats are available at Sharf Visitor Center. Please return them at the end of your visit.

Gallery stools are not usually allowed in the Gund Gallery or other special exhibitions, but if you need to use one during your visit, please inform the protective services staff before entering the gallery.

All restrooms have wheelchair-accessible stalls. You can also find two Everyone, or single-occupancy, restrooms, on Level G below Sharf Visitor Center. The spaces are equipped with changing tables and are fully accessible for people who use wheelchairs, require assistance, or privacy.

All bags are subject to inspection by Museum staff. Backpacks, large bags, and outside food or drink are not permitted. Exceptions are made for medical or religious needs. Smaller bags are strongly discouraged, and any bags larger than 11 x 15 inches will need to be checked in the Coat Room upon entry.

Aira is a service that connects people who are blind or low-vision to agents who can assist with navigation, reading, etc., through an app on a smartphone. Access to Aira in the Museum and on the grounds is free for all visitors who have downloaded the app. The app is available through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Feel free to go to the Sharf Visitor Center information desk for assistance.

All MFA videos online are open or close captioned.

In addition to headphones, we offer neckloops, which are compatible with t-coil hearing aids.

Although no gallery tours and talks are being offered at this time, an assistive listening system will be available at the Sharf Visitor Center when tours and talks resume, and a separate system will be available for programs in our auditoriums when they resume. Headsets and neckloops are available.

For visitors with hearing aids with a T-coil switch, there are induction loops at the entrances and the Information desk at the Sharf Visitor Center.

When tours resume, headsets and neckloops will be available for lectures, concerts, and films in Alfond Auditorium, Remis Auditorium, and in the Riley Seminar Room.

When drop-in tours and gallery talks resume, portable FM assistive-listening devices, with either headsets or neckloops, will be available at the Sharf Visitor Center.
