Contemporary Navajo weaver D. Y. Begay came to the MFA to bring a 21st-century belt of her creation to complete the 19th-century Navajo dress on view in "Collecting Stories: Native American Art." Begay introduces the art of Navajo weaving, her admiration for the master weavers who made the dress, or biil, and explains the significance of the belt in Navajo dress. For Begay, weaving is an art that connects her to her elders “and also the deities.”
