Join us for a discussion and demonstration of the inanga, an important instrument from Africa’s Great Lakes region. The inanga, a trough-shaped string instrument, is linked to the development of musical genres, as well as linguistic practices, that reach far back into the region’s past and continue today. Join Chance Boas, the founder of Providence World Music; internationally respected musician Steven Sogo; and Pappalardo Assistant Curator of Musical Instruments Bobby Giglio for a vibrant discussion of this instrument’s history and use, as well as live performances on both the MFA’s historical inanga and modern examples.
