Building on a recent course considering New England culture from the 17th through 19th centuries, this Looking Together dives into the region’s turbulence during the 19th and 20th centuries. As American artists learned from European masters, their work began to illustrate a search for a new national identity. Learn about the emergence of the Boston School and focus specifically on the women artists who emerged from the period. Painters and sculptors—those professionally trained by Europeans as well as ones who worked with local educators—left a great body of work to admire and explore.
