Directed by Kang Je-gyu (South Korea, 2023, 113 min.). Korean, English, and Japanese with English subtitles.
This rousing historical drama is based on the life story of Korean athlete Son Kee-chung, the marathon gold medalist at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Furious about a government mandate that forces him to represent Japan in competition, Kee-chung covers up the flag on his uniform at the Olympics awards ceremony in protest, and his promising career is cut short as punishment. Years later, having sworn off competitive running, Kee-chung reluctantly agrees to train the Korean running team for the 1950 Boston International Marathon, the first international marathon since World War II. Can he overcome his demons and lead the young runners to capture the victory Korea deserves?
