Directed by Petra Biondina Volpe (Switzerland and Germany, 2025, 92 min.). German, Turkish, and French with English subtitles.

Set over the course of a single night, Late Shift follows Floria (Leonie Benesch), a devoted young nurse navigating an understaffed Swiss hospital ward where care, exhaustion, and moral pressure collide. Moving between a critically ill mother, an anxious elderly patient awaiting a diagnosis, and a demanding private patient, Floria performs the quiet, relentless labor of care under mounting time constraints—until a grave error brings her to the brink.

Written and directed by Petra Biondina Volpe and inspired by Madeline Calvelage’s nonfiction book Unser Beruf ist nicht das Problem: Es sind die Umstände, the film is anchored by a riveting performance from Benesch.

Late Shift was selected as Switzerland’s official submission for the 98th Academy Awards and made the December shortlist, affirming its urgent emotional and social resonance.
