Mon cher Monet
Nous sommes revenus de chez vous plein d’enthousiasme, malgré l’air Bostonien de ces dames. Mme Fairchild a dû écrire à son mari pour le faire en prendre deux, l’un de chez Durand-Ruel et un autre de chez vous. Elle est partie le lendemain sans me donner d’ordres exacts. Nous avons été chez Durand en revenant à Paris, et là encore grande indécision pour le choix. J’ai insisté sur la vue de la mer du haut d’une falaise avec des ombres des nuages et elle l’a retenue. Il parait que le lendemain matin elle est retournée chez Durand et a pris le Meules en place de l’autre.
Deux autres Américains d’ici me consultent sur le choix à faire! Décidément vous êtes à la mode là-bas.
Je suis encore ici pour quelques jours.

My dear Monet
We came away from you full of enthusiasm despite the Bostonian air of those ladies. Mrs. Fairchild must have written to her husband to make him take two of them, one from Durand-Ruel and another from you. She left the following day without giving me precise instructions. On returning to Paris, we went to Durand and, yet again, she could not make up her mind. I insisted on the view of the sea seen from the top of a cliff with the shadows of clouds and she reserved it. She apparently returned to Durand’s the next morning and took Les Meules instead of the other.
Two other Americans here are asking me about which of your pictures to choose. Decidedly you are in vogue over there.
I shall still be here for a few days.
