Museum Closure Updates FAQ

I already reserved or purchased an admission ticket; is it canceled, and can I get a refund for a purchased ticket?

You will receive an e-mail from us if your ticket has been canceled.

If you are a member who reserved free admission tickets or purchased admission tickets that have been canceled, or a nonmember who purchased admission tickets that have been canceled, we will notify you when admission tickets become available again and will give you early access to available time slots to reschedule your visit.

If you purchased tickets and they have been canceled, you are entitled to a refund. But please consider donating the value of your tickets to the MFA Fund instead—another closure has a devastating impact on the MFA and we really need your support! Donating is automatic—or you can opt for a refund. To obtain a refund or credit to your account, please contact us at the number listed below within 5 business days of receiving notice your ticket has been canceled.

The full value of your purchased tickets will be a much appreciated donation to the MFA Fund, giving critical support to the Museum, its staff, and its programs during this time.

If you have any questions, wish to make a partial donation of your ticket price, or obtain your refund, please call our ticket line at 1-800-440-6975 between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am and 4 pm on Saturdays, to speak with a representative who can assist you.

Will the MFA continue to host its public programs and art classes virtually?

Yes—we will continue to offer free and ticketed virtual programs as we have since Spring 2020. Stay tuned for updates about upcoming virtual programs.

Will you extend special exhibitions like “Monet and Boston” and “Writing the Future”?

No decisions about extending special exhibitions have been made at this time. We are considering many factors in determining how to adapt our exhibition schedule.

How will this closure affect upcoming exhibitions such as “Paper Stories, Layered Dreams: The Art of Ekua Holmes”?

We are reassessing our exhibition schedule to accommodate city/state mandated safety measures and hope to share an update on upcoming exhibitions soon.
