Broaden your drawing skills by exploring how to draw with charcoal. Charcoal is a forgiving medium that allows for plenty of experimentation. Learn to create successful compositions by drawing from observation and your imagination. Think differently and expand your ideas of what drawings can be through exercises and pursue to pursue your own choices in subject matter and style.

Registration for February, April, and Summer vacation week classes ends at Noon the Friday before the class starts.

Due to the building’s historic architecture, the third-floor classrooms, 305A, 305B, 305D and 305E, are not wheelchair-accessible and must be accessed by stairs. Please let us know in advance if the student has limited mobility; we can make accommodations, including relocating the class to an accessible space.

About the Instructor

Justin Life received an MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts (2007) and a BFA in painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2002); he also studied at the Winchester School of Art at Southampton University in England (2002). His shows include Affirming the Hand at the Courtyard Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2005); Boston Young Contemporaries at 808 Gallery (2007); and “Boston Drawing Project 10th Anniversary Show” at Carroll and Sons Gallery, Boston MA (2009). Life also teaches at Tufts University and the Boston Architectural College.
