In 2009, General Motors filed for bankruptcy, deepening the financial collapse in the US and beyond. For Guatemalan artist Regina José Galindo, economic globalization ensures that “the origin of the crisis for some…is the origin of the crisis for all.” Staged five years following the collapse, her two-hour durational performance addressed the increasing interconnectedness of our global age.
This performance formed part of the exhibition “Permission To Be Global/Prácticas Globales: Latin American Art from the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection.”
