The Museum is committed to providing high-quality fine art instruction that empowers artists to explore their creativity in multiple media. Studio art partnerships between the Museum and the Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts, Diablo Glass School, and Stonybrook Fine Arts allow students to create art using specific media found and inspired by our world-class encyclopedic collection.

These Studio Art partnerships create a bridge between the collections and resources of the MFA and those of its studio partners in order to train and encourage artists to explore their media in new ways off the Museum site in studios which are built for specific purposes. Studio Partners courses are taught by high-quality expert instructors at multiple locations and are designed to reach students at varying levels of experience.

At partner studios, students create work—by welding, glass blowing, and woodworking, among other techniques. Class sizes are limited to ensure a safe working environment in their state-of-the-art facilities. A supportive, noncompetitive environment allows students to explore their creativity.

Diablo Glass School

The MFA is delighted to present programming with Diablo Glass School. Located just blocks from the MFA, Diablo is a place where beginning and professional artists share a nurturing environment, encouraging growth and development in an inviting atmosphere. Diablo offers a diverse range of classes including glassblowing, flame working, kiln forming, and stained glass. The interdisciplinary approach to studio glass offers students a broad spectrum of opportunities. Many courses include a tour of the Museum’s glass collection with a discussion of the history of glass, different techniques, and artistic inspiration. All tools and materials are provided.

Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts

The MFA is delighted to present programming with the Eliot School. In the heart of Jamaica Plain, the Eliot School is a short ride from the MFA. Parking is plentiful, and the bus stops one block away. All tools are provided, except as noted. Materials lists are distributed during first class. No previous experience required.

Stonybrook School of Fine Arts

Founded by MFA instructor Morris Norvin, Stonybrook Fine Arts is a sculpture studio and foundry located in Jamaica Plain that features classes in a variety of media. Course include Stick, MIG, and TIG welding; bronze casting; mold making; live figure modeling; and jewelry making. All courses and workshops include a tour of the Museum’s collections of sculpture and metals. Easily accessible by the MBTA orange line; on-street parking available. No experience necessary (except as noted). All course and workshop sizes are limited to provide a safe working environment. All tools and materials are provided.
