Gain a comprehensive understanding of fundamental sculptural techniques using diverse materials and conceptual approaches. Examining both traditional and contemporary methods, students analyze sculptures from the collection based on artistic principles, historical context, and personal interpretation and apply critical thinking skills to execute their own three-dimensional art forms.
Class will break for a short lunch.

Registration for February, April, and Summer vacation week classes ends at Noon the Friday before the class starts.

Accessibility
Due to the building’s historic architecture, the third-floor classrooms, 305A, 305B, 305D and 305E, are not wheelchair-accessible and must be accessed by stairs. Please let us know in advance if the student has limited mobility; we can make accommodations, including relocating the class to an accessible space.

About the Instructor
Patrick Brennan is a Boston-based sculptor, master of fine arts student at MassArt, and art educator with years of experience designing and building statues for public parks and exhibiting at art galleries within the New England area. Along with being an art instructor at the MFA he is also currently employed by the education department of Massachusetts College of Art and Design and previously by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. While in undergraduate school he studied figurative sculpture under the guidance of professor Charles Stigliano and became highly skilled in the discipline of classical sculpting in regard to proportion, anatomy, composition, and complex symbolism.
