About the Instructor

Sonja Czekalski is a Rhode Island-based interdisciplinary artist and MFA Graduate in Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, MA. Her current work embeds itself in the fourth wave of American feminism, using fiber arts and hand-paper making to reclaim the craft, body, and voice of the web of women who raised her. Currently, Czekalski is the Gallery Director of the historic Hera Gallery in Wakefield, RI. Additionally, she teaches a variety of studio art courses. She has participated in many virtual exhibitions across the country and a number of group shows around New England including exhibitions at Hera Gallery, Providence Art Club, Art League Rhode Island, Jamestown Art Center, and Mass Art SOWA. She is an artist member at Hera Gallery, a member of the North American Handpapermakers, and a contributor to Witches Magazine. When she is not teaching or working in her studio she is most likely at the beach with her family or hiking with her dog, and looking for inspiration from fresh air and solitude.
