Investigate methods, techniques, and approaches in mixed-media art that provide an extensive array of visually stimulating possibilities. Cover both two-dimensional and three-dimensional mixed-media, collage and assemblage techniques, including texturing surfaces with collage, employing additive and subtractive processes to establish topography, transparent and opaque painting techniques as well as  using alternative and custom tools to produce signature mark-making, and so much more.

Class will break for a short lunch.

Ticketing Policies


Due to the building’s historic architecture, the third-floor classrooms, 305A, 305B, 305D and 305E, are not wheelchair-accessible and must be accessed by stairs. Please let us know in advance if the student has limited mobility; we can make accommodations, including relocating the class to an accessible space.

About the Instructor

Lisa L. Cyr is a mixed media artist, using symbolism, metaphor, and allegory to stimulate curiosity. A graduate from Massachusetts College of Art (BFA) and Syracuse University (MA), Cyr's artistic oeuvre has been exhibited in museums and galleries, including traveling shows with the Society of Illustrators of New York and Los Angeles. Her work has been featured in magazines, books, and online, including numerous features in Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, AcrylicWorks: The Best in Acrylic Painting, and Incite: The Best in Mixed Media. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of American Illustration in New York City as well as in private collections.

Cyr writes for many of the creative industry's leading art publications and has authored seven books on art and design, including Experimental Painting and Art Revolution (North Light Books). She teaches at The Art Students League of New York and in several of the top MFA graduate programs across the country. Cyr is an artist member of the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
