Explore the fundamentals of drawing by focusing on line, gesture, shading, texture, composition, proportion, and perspective. Learn a variety of techniques to improve observational skills while working creatively from an array of still life and personal objects.

Students are responsible for providing their own materials. View the supply list here.

Unfortunately due to gallery capacity limitations, Studio Art Classes and students are prohibited from visiting the galleries. Advanced timed-ticket entry is required.

About the Instructor

Justin Life received an MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts (2007) and a BFA in painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2002); he also studied at the Winchester School of Art at Southampton University in England (2002). His shows include Affirming the Hand at the Courtyard Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2005); Boston Young Contemporaries at 808 Gallery (2007); and “Boston Drawing Project 10th Anniversary Show” at Carroll and Sons Gallery, Boston MA (2009). Life also teaches at Tufts University and the Boston Architectural College.
