Historical keyboard specialist Sylvia Berry will demonstrate and talk about the history and repertoire for one of the Museum’s most celebrated musical instruments, a grand piano made in 1796 by Broadwood and Son of London, with decoration designed by Thomas Sheraton. Considered the most richly decorated piano of its time, this instrument is also one of the most noteworthy objects of any type made in late 18th-century England. It was commissioned by Manuel de Godoy, prime minister to King Carlos IV of Spain and a major patron of the artist Francisco Goya.
