Historical keyboard specialist Sylvia Berry will demonstrate and talk about the history and repertoire for one of the Museum’s most recently acquired keyboard instruments, a grand piano made about 1815 by Johann Peter Fritz of Vienna. After two years of intensive restoration, this magnificent piano has been returned to its musical and visual glory, and is well suited to the music of Beethoven, Schubert, and their contemporaries. Fritz was one the leading Viennese piano makers during this time, and his instruments are often handsomely ornamented with brass ormolu mounts.
