How does looking at one work of art help us see another? Comparing three or four works in which artists follow similar themes allows us to see more clearly the choices each artist is making, the strategies and techniques each is employing to achieve their intent. This series focuses primarily on European and American paintings, considering artists from Rembrandt and Degas to Stuart Davis. In some sessions, a sculpture, a photograph, and an Asian painting will provide counterpoint.
