At age 25, Rembrandt moved from his native Leiden to Amsterdam, at the time a fast-growing center of international trade. As the Dutch middle class became more prosperous, the market for paintings exploded. Join Antien Knaap, curatorial research fellow, to examine the historical and visual culture of Rembrandt’s Amsterdam, paying particular attention to global trade, urban renewal, religious pluralism, and the art market.
