Join us for a special discussion on “Fashioned by Sargent,” an exhibition that reveals the painter’s power over his sitters’ images by considering the liberties he took with their clothing to express individual personalities, power, professions, gender identities, and nationalities—and to fulfill his own artistic agenda.
Hear from curator Erica Hirshler, Croll Senior Curator of American Painting, as she explores Sargent’s complex relationship with his often-affluent sitters and their clothes and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this wonderful exhibition.
