Don’t miss this behind-the-scenes look at the process of preparing paintings, ukiyo-e prints, and books by Hokusai for the MFA exhibition “Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence.” MFA conservators share their experiences preserving Hokusai works, including a preparatory drawing of a snake for a Japanese folding screen; Bon Festival Dance, a woodblock print mounted as a hanging scroll; and few works not included in the exhibition that help show the full range of Hokusai’s artistry. Get a better understanding of the remounting process for paintings and learn about techniques and media used by Hokusai.
