Class Schedule

April 6, 2023—Ancient Boats

Explore how people from ancient civilizations used boats by taking a look at examples from the Museum’s collection. Then create your own colorful boat using wood pieces and mixed media.

April 13, 2023—Dangers of Sea Travel

When traveling by boat, people have always had to worry about storms. Some cultures also believe that there are mystical beings or monsters lurking in the ocean depths. Hear some of these stories then create your own map to help you navigate around storms and monsters.

May 4, 2023—Navigation

Learn about compasses and the astrolabe, tools that help sailors navigate more safely across the ocean. Then build your own miniature lighthouse to help ships navigate rocky coasts!

May 11, 2023—Modern Boats

Once new tools were invented, boats could help humans do so much more! Take a closer look at modern depictions of boats in the Museum’s collections then test a variety of materials to create a miniature boat that floats!
