Class Schedule

June 2, 2022—Escape to the Seaside: The Beach

Learn about foreground, middle ground, and background while taking a closer look at how artists have depicted ocean and beach landscapes. Then begin creating your own diorama of the seaside by adding sand, ocean, and background elements.

June 9, 2022—Escape to the Seaside: Sea Creatures

Dive deep in search of real and imaginary animals that live in the ocean. Discover how artists from different cultures and time periods have portrayed each one. Then use colorful clay to sculpt a real or imaginary creature of your own and add it to your diorama!

June 16, 2022—Escape to the Seaside: Plants and Objects

Discover different things that can be found on a beach while taking a closer look at art from the Museum’s collections. From seaweed and palm trees to sand castles and beach chairs…what will you find? Then use wood, fabric, paint, and glue to create some of these very important, but tiny details for your own seaside landscape.

June 23, 2022—Escape to the Seaside: People

Take a closer look at how artists have portrayed people in paintings and sculptures. Then use paint markers, wooden shapes, fabric scraps, and other materials to make people who can enjoy a day at your beach.
