The exhibition “Hear Me Now: The Black Potters of Old Edgefield, South Carolina” provided conservators a unique opportunity to compare many Edgefield vessels together. Join in this discussion to learn about common conditions related to their manufacture and use, and see one of the jars up close. Careful examination not only helped conservators devise a considered approach in preparing them for display, but also deepened understanding and appreciation of the potters’ contributions to ceramic technology in the decades before the Civil War.

With Gerri Strickler, conservator, Objects Conservation Laboratory.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Due to space constraints, tours are limited to 12 participants (first come, first served). Tours meet at Sharf Visitor Center. Assistive listening devices available upon request.
