Presented in Mandarin Chinese. Meet in Sharf Visitor Center.
Chinese paintings and calligraphies are often works on paper and silk, mounted on backing papers to provide additional support. These mountings function as a way to preserve the objects, but their variety also reflects different ways in which the works were used and appreciated by early scholars. Come see a selection from the Wan-go H. C. Weng Collection, including this hand scroll, hanging scroll, and album. The Weng Collection comprises masterpieces of brush and ink spanning 1,300 years, which were acquired by and passed down through six generations of a single family before being donated to the MFA in 2018.
With Hsin-Chen Tsai, Cornelius Van der Starr Conservator of Chinese Paintings.
Presented in English on August 16, 2023, 1 pm, and in Mandarin Chinese on September 20, 2023, 1 pm.
