Directed by Pouya Eshtehardi (Iran, 2019, 78 min.). In Farsi and Urdu with English subtitles.
Hamin is a young private doing his military service in a watchtower on the borderline of Iran and Pakistan. Impatient for a day off to attend his sister’s wedding ceremony, he gets into a fight with his commander. Up in the watchtower, Hamin thinks about his past and everything that’s happened to him and his sister since childhood. In Balochi (the Northwestern Iranian language spoken primarily in the Balochistan region divided between Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan), Hamin means “the heat of summer,” a meaningful characterization of Hamin’s internal and external worlds.
