Directed by Thomas Lilti (France, 2018, 92 min.). Digital. French with English subtitles.

From doctor-turned-director Thomas Lilti, a filmmaker who proved his worth with Hippocrates: Diary of a French Doctor (a surprise hit in Cannes in 2014), comes an intelligent social comedy exploring life in the medical profession. The Freshmen follows Antoine (played by rising star Vincent Lacoste), who is about to start his first year of medical school . . . for the third time. Meanwhile, Benjamin, fresh out of high school, soon realizes that medical school is not exactly a walk in the park. The two freshers must resist the temptation of hard partying and find a middle ground between despair for the present and hope for the future.
