Triumph of the Mountain (Dağın Zaferi)

Directed by Yasir Sarın (Turkey, 2019, 10 min.). Digital.

Serdal Televi, who brings his passion and goals to mountain summits, climbs Sivri Mountain in Antalya. This documentary was filmed in real time.

Directed by Dilek Kaya (Turkey, 2018, 85 min.). Digital. Turkish with English subtitles.

In June 2016, director Dilek Kaya bought 18 discarded letters from a flea market in Turkey. Written in 1973 and 1974, the letters were addressed to Kâzım Küçükalp, apparently an urban, middle-class, 19-year-old student. From the letters, Kâzım appeared smart, vivacious, and adventurous, a Turkish fan of European and American rock bands of the time. Upon discovering that Kâzım died during a mountain expedition in 1974, Kaya sets off on a journey to learn and eternalize the young boy’s life. She found his high school friends, his elder brother, and the mountaineers who witnessed his death. This documentary intertwines Kaya’s travels, the story of Kâzım, and the urban youth culture of Turkey in the 1970s.
