Meeting Jim

Directed by Ece Ger (Turkey, 2018, 76 min.). Turkish with English subtitles.

Meeting Jim explores the life of Jim Haynes, a colorful personality who lived a life of accomplishment. Among the many things Haynes did during his lifetime, he established the first paperback bookshop in Britain, was a catalyst for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, established the London Traverse Theatre Company, co-founded the newspaper I.T., started the underground pop club U.F.O., and co-founded the London Arts Lab. In his Paris atelier, Haynes has hosted open dinners every Sunday evening for some 40 years, welcoming over 130,000 guests and counting. The Guardian has called him “the founder of the social network.” At 83, Haynes is still committed to connecting people. As he says, the more people meet each other, the better the world is.
