The Miracle Worker: Muazzez İlmiye Çığ (Muazzez Mucizesi 104 Yaşında)

Directed by Nurdan Arca (Turkey, 2018, 45 min.). Digital. Turkish with English subtitles.

Scientist Muazzez Ilmiye Çığ is 104 years old. She was born at the start of World War I. Through her arduous life, she has witnessed the story of Turkey in the 20th century. First, she became a teacher. Then, she became one of the first women to attend the Faculty of Language, History, and Geography at Ankara University, graduating as a Sumerologist. Throughout her entire life she studied the Sumerians, known cuneiform writing and their rich history. To this day, Çığ still gives talks. She overcame all sorts of hardships through persistence, hard work, and pleasure in life. With her boundless knowledge and wisdom, she still stands tall.


The Long Journey (Uzun Yolculuk)

The untold story of Ottoman migrants who embarked on a difficult journey to start new lives in the US in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This documentary features interviews with the families of these immigrants, including in New England.

Discounts
