Directed by Marie Amochoukeli-Barsacq (France, 2023, 83 min.). French with English subtitles.

For six-year-old Cléo, whose mother died when she was a baby, the tender bond she has with her nanny, Gloria, is everything. But Gloria has a family of her own in Cape Verde, and the time comes when she must return to them. Determined to make the most of their last summer together, Gloria arranges for Cléo to come for a visit. While she delights in the beauty and culture of Gloria's homeland, little Cléo must locate the wisdom to say goodbye to her most cherished friend. Director Marie Amochoukeli-Barsacq offers an intimate, impressionistic film featuring an astonishing performance by its young star. Though brimming with heartbreak, Ama Gloria is a joy to behold.

“A moving drama … the considerable power of Ama Gloria lies in its unmatched portrait of one brave little heart, bruised but learning to beat on its own.” —Variety
