De la Mode: Fashion at the Court of the Empress Eugénie
6:30 — 8:30 pm
Thursday, November 5, 2009
Trustee Room

Join us for a lecture with 18th-century fashion expert Professor Aileen Ribeiro on Empress Eugénie and the brilliant court of the Second Empire in France. She will explore the role of fashion as a defining feature of elite female life, especially with regard to the creation of haute couture by the great designer Charles Frederick Worth, and its depiction by the society artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter. (NB, this event begins at 6:30 pm rather than 6 pm.)
This is an exclusive event for the Textile and Costume Society.
