The Museum of Fine Arts Library comprises the William Morris Hunt Memorial Library, the W. Van Alan Clark Jr. Library at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and nine curatorial department libraries.

The combined library holdings total more than 320,000 items and reflect the strengths of the Museum’s collections: Art of Asia, Oceania, and Africa; Art of the Americas; Art of the Ancient World; Art of Europe; Musical Instruments; Prints, Drawings, and Photographs; and Textile and Fashion Arts. The Library supports research on the Museum’s permanent collections, special exhibitions, and general art history.

The Library is open to the public. The collections are noncirculating. The library's holdings are reflected in the Fenway Libraries Online (FLO).

Policies and procedures of library use.

Hours
Monday-Friday, 1-5 pm, except major holidays. An appointment is not required. Researchers visiting from out of town may want to contact the library in advance with any special requests.

The Museum Archives was founded in 1987. The Archives contains more 1,000 cubic feet of historically significant records from the Museum's administrative and curatorial departments dating from 1870 to the present. The Archives also houses a portion of the archival records from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Museum admission is not required for access to the Museum Archives. Access to the Museum Archives is available by appointment only.

Services
The Library is open to the public. Museum admission is not required for access. The collections are noncirculating to the public, and black-and-white photocopies may be made for $.15/copy. The library's holdings are reflected in the Fenway Libraries Online (FLO).
